Job seekers damaging job opportunities with social networking

The Information Commissioner's Office has warned that young people's future employment opportunities at risk because of social networking sites.

According to a report from the ICO as many as 4.5million young people would not want a college, university or potential employer to conduct an internet search on them unless they could first remove content from social networking sites.

However almost six in 10 have never considered that what they put online now might be permanent and could be accessed years into the future.

David Smith, Deputy Commissioner for the ICO, said: “Many young people are posting content online without thinking about the electronic footprint they leave behind. The cost to a person’s future can be very high if something undesirable is found by the increasing number of education institutions and employers using the Internet as a tool to vet potential students or employees".

As well as not thinking ahead before posting information on the web about their drinking antics from the night before, the survey of Britons aged 14-21 also revealed that youngsters’ online behaviour is a gift to potential fraudsters.

Two-thirds (eight in 10 girls aged 16-17) accept people they don’t know as "friends" on social networking sites and over half leave parts of their profile public specifically to attract new people.

More than seven in 10 are not concerned that their personal profile can be viewed by strangers and 7% don’t think privacy settings are important and actively want everyone to see their full profile.

Not surprisingly the research also found that a third of young people have never read privacy policies on social networking sites and don’t understand how they can manage their personal information.

But when asked how they feel about websites potentially using their details to target advertising at them or to pass on to other websites or brands, a huge 95% are concerned about this, with 54% caring "a lot" about how their personal information is used.

The research findings are unveiled as the ICO launches a new website at www.ico.gov.uk/youngpeople to help young people understand their information rights.

JobServe

JobServe claims to be the world's first internet-based recruitment service, or job search engine publishing adverts for jobs and vacancies on behalf of agencies and employers.

History

The company, formed in late 1993 by husband and wife team Robbie and Cheryl Cowling, launched its first 'jobs by email' facility on May 4, 1994 and followed later that year with the first recruitment website.

Headquartered in Tiptree, Essex, UK, the company was recognised in 2000 as having the UK's fastest rate of profit growth by The Sunday Times[citation needed] and PwC in their Profit Track 100 listing. A Queen's Award for Enterprise, given to the company in 2001, was the first time an internet based company had won such a prestigious accolade.

An Australian version of the site launched in 2002 operated by a team based in Sydney who cover the Australasia and Asia Pacific region. May 2006 saw the company move into North America with the acquisition of CareerBoard.com and Computerwork.com, followed by ComputerJobs.com in November 2006 and Canada's JobShark.com in December 2006.
====================================================================
Job Seeker Services

Job seekers are able to search more than 9,000 new jobs published every day and apply online for any role they wish to be considered for.

Candidates who register on the JobServe website allow the companies unique matching technology, known as Alchemy, to automatically check every new vacancy posted against their search pattern. An email is immediately sent to the individual when a match is made, giving them the best possible chance of winning the role. While an unsubscribe option is provided with the email, the link for it is redirected to the JobServe home page, making it virtually impossible to remove oneself from their email list. Care must also be taken to whitelist the search results against spam blockers. This is because the company will from time to time acquire accounts from other venders (such as ComputerWork), and send unsolicited searches to users without first checking whether or not those accounts are still active.

A curriculum vitæ, or résumé can be uploaded to the sites CV database, which is used by recruiters to identify candidates to fill their vacancies.

Daily lists of new vacancies, matching job seeker profiles are sent by email or RSS.

Clients & Profits X Online User Guide

Billing a job for its unbilled costs is the easiest, fastest way to add an invoice. There’s really only one thing you need to know: the job number. Since jobs are integrated with billing and accounts receivable, there’s no rekeying to make an invoice. When the job task is entered, the unbilled amount from the task is copied to the invoice line item. The line item includes the task’s billing information (i.e. description, cGL, and taxable status). Because it’s only a copy of the information, changing information -- like the cGL or tax status -- on the invoice doesn’t affect the job.

To add a job billing 1 From the Accounts Receivable window, click the add button
(or choose Edit > Add New Invoice > Job Billing). The Add Job Billing Invoice window opens.]
==============================================================
2 Follow the remaining steps to continue adding a job billing:

Invoice number New invoices are numbered automatically (using the invoice number entered in Preferences). Invoices are numbered sequentially. You can change the invoice number by selecting it and then entering your own number. You’ll be notified if the invoice number has been used before. Job number The last-used job number is entered automatically as a time-saver, but can be changed. If you’re not sure about a job number, leave the field blank then press Tab to open the jobs lookup list. Double-click on the job to copy it to this invoice. You can enter any job number you wish, including jobs that are new, in progress, or closed. If the job has a status alert, you’ll see it as you tab past the job number field. Client number Every invoice is billed to only one client. This client is the one who will eventually pay for the invoice. The client number is copied automatically from the job, but can be changed -- which lets you bill the job to a different client. Tabbing past the client number copies its name, payment terms, and sales tax information to the invoice. Any active client can be used on an invoice. The job ticket and invoice can have different clients. There may be instances where several departments of a large corporation open jobs, but invoices are billed to a third-party. This third-party, such as the corporate headquarters, would be added as a separate client and get all of the billings. Debit account The default A/R account, which is copied from Preferences, can be changed to a different G/L account. This account is debited for the invoice’s total, including sales tax, when the invoice is posted.

Notes The work you’re billing can be fully explained in the invoice notes. These notes, which appear near the top of the printed invoice (above the billing amounts), can summarize what’s being billed on this invoice. Job task for the first billing amount Press Tab to see the job’s tasks. Double-click on the task to copy it to this invoice. Tabbing past the job task copies its description, unbilled amount, unbilled hours, and credit G/L# to the invoice. Task description, billing amount, hours billed, and income G/L number Changing the task’s description here only affects this invoice; the job task itself is unchanged. This description appears in the body of the printed invoice. The billing amount is the actual amount your client will pay. It appears on the printed invoice, and includes all costs, fees, commissions, and markups. You can bill the job task’s entire unbilled amount by tabbing past the amount. Or, the billing amount can be changed by entering a larger or smaller number (there’s no limit to how much or how little you can charge on an invoice). The hours billed are optional, but can show the client how many hours were billed on this job task. The credit G/L number is used to track income on the financial statements. It is copied from the job task (which was originally copied from the Task Table). Every line item can have a different credit account, if needed. A cGL is required.
===============================================================

3 Repeat these steps to bill the job’s other tasks, then click Save.

Once the invoice is added and saved, it must be posted. Posting makes the invoice permanent, updating the job ticket, the client account, and the General Ledger. The invoice can be proofed before posting, then changed as needed (e.g., amounts added or removed, descriptions changed, etc.).

Vacancy (chemistry)

In crystallography, a vacancy is a type of point defect in a crystal. Crystals inherently possess imperfections, often referred to as 'crystalline defects'. A defect wherein an atom, such as silicon, is missing from one of the sites is known as a 'vacancy' defect.

Vacancies occur naturally in all crystalline materials. At any given temperature, up to the melting point of the material, there is an equilibrium concentration (ratio of vacant lattice sites to those containing atoms). At the melting point of some metals the ratio can be approximately 0.1%

The creation of a vacancy can be simply modeled by considering the energy required to break the bonds between an atom inside the crystal and its nearest neighbor atoms. Once that atom is removed from the lattice site, it is put back on the surface of the crystal and some energy is retrieved because new bonds are established with other atoms on the surface. However, there is a net input of energy because there are fewer bonds between surface atoms than between atoms in the interior of the crystal.

At any given temperature, the amount of energy needed to create a vacancy is diminished because creating a vacancy disorders the interior of the crystal. The measure of this disorder is called the entropy of the system. Adding vacancies to the material increases the entropy, which tends to reduce the total energy required to create the vacancy. We call this energy the free energy and this is the energy that is required to create an equilibrium concentration of vacancies at a given temperature.
==============================================================

Crystallography
---------------------
Crystallography (from the Greek words crystallon = cold drop / frozen drop, with its meaning extending to all solids with some degree of transparency, and graphein = write) is the experimental science of determining the arrangement of atoms in solids. In older usage, it is the scientific study of crystals.

Before the development of X-ray diffraction crystallography (see below), the study of crystals was based on the geometry of the crystals. This involves measuring the angles of crystal faces relative to theoretical reference axes (crystallographic axes), and establishing the symmetry of the crystal in question. The former is carried out using a goniometer. The position in 3D space of each crystal face is plotted on a stereographic net, e.g. Wulff net or Lambert net. In fact, the pole to each face is plotted on the net. Each point is labelled with its Miller index. The final plot allows the symmetry of the crystal to be established.

Crystallographic methods now depend on the analysis of the diffraction patterns that emerge from a sample that is targeted by a beam of some type. The beam is not always electromagnetic radiation, even though X-rays are the most common choice. For some purposes electrons or neutrons are used, which is possible due to the wave properties of the particles. Crystallographers often explicitly state the type of illumination used when referring to a method, as with the terms X-ray diffraction, neutron diffraction and electron diffraction.

These three types of radiation interact with the specimen in different ways. X-rays interact with the spatial distribution of the valence electrons, while electrons are charged particles and therefore feel the total charge distribution of both the atomic nuclei and the surrounding electrons. Neutrons are scattered by the atomic nuclei through the strong nuclear forces, but in addition, the magnetic moment of neutrons is non-zero. They are therefore also scattered by magnetic fields. Because of these different forms of interaction, the three types of radiation are suitable for different crystallographic studies.
===============================================================
Theory
------------
In several cases, an image of a microscopic object is generated by focusing the rays of the visible spectrum using a lens, as in light microscopy. However, because the wavelength of visible light is long compared to atomic bond lengths and atoms themselves, it is necessary to use radiation with shorter wavelengths, such as X-rays. Employing shorter wavelengths implies abandoning microscopy and true imaging, however, because there exists no material from which a lens capable of focusing this type of radiation can be created. (That said, scientists have had some success focusing X-rays with microscopic Fresnel zone plates made from gold). Generally, in diffraction-based imaging, the only wavelengths used are those that are too short to be focused. This difficulty is the reason that crystals must be used.

Because of their highly ordered and repetitive structure, crystals are an ideal material for analyzing the structure of solids. To use X-ray diffraction as an example, a single X-ray photon diffracting off of one electron cloud will not generate a strong enough signal for the equipment to detect. However, many X-rays diffracting off many electron clouds in approximately the same relative position and orientation throughout the crystal will result in constructive interference and hence a detectable signal.

Job hunting

job seeking is the act of looking for employment, due to unemployment or discontent with a current position. The immediate goal of job seeking is usually to obtain a job interview with an employer which may lead to getting hired. The job hunter or seeker typically first looks for job vacancies or employment opportunities. Common methods of job hunting are:

* using a job search engine
* looking through the classifieds in newspapers
* using a private or public employment agency or recruiter
* finding a job through a friend or an extended business network or personal network
===============================================================

Overview
==========

Knowing the employers
=======================

It is expected the job seekers will have done a reasonable amount of research into the employers. Some basic information about an employer should be collected first before applying the organization's positions, including full name, locations, web site, business description, year established, revenues, number of employees, stock price if public, name of chief executive officer, major products or services, major competitors, strength as well as challenges.

With all of the resources available on the Internet, expand the research into the employer to discover if the employer's operation is healthy and likely to continue to prosper. If an employer's financial situation is shaky, new employees are often the first one out the door when a cut back occurs. Employers that are companies with publicly traded equities are good subjects for pre-employment research and enable the job hunter to avoid being the last one hired before the reductions and layoffs begin.
===============================================================

Applying
========
One can also go and hand out résumés or Curriculum Vitae to prospective employers. Another recommended method of job hunting is to use cold calling or emailing to companies that one desires to work for and inquire to whether there are any job vacancies.

After finding a desirable job, they would then apply for the job by responding to the advertisement. This may mean emailing or mailing in a hard copy of your résumé to a prospective employer. There is no one correct way to write a résumé but it is generally recommended that it be brief, organized, concise, and targeted to the position being sought. With certain occupations, such as graphic design or writing, portfolios of a job seeker's previous work are essential and are evaluated as much, if not more than the person's résumé. With most other occupations, the résumé should focus on past accomplishments, expressed in terms as concretely as possible (e.g. number of people managed, amount of increased sales or improved customer satisfaction).
===============================================================

Interviewing
============
Once an employer has received your résumé, they will make a short list of potential employees to be interviewed based on the resume and any other information contributed. During the interview process, interviewers generally look for persons who they believe will be best for the job and work environment. The interview may occur in several rounds until the interviewer is satisfied and offers the job to the applicant.
===============================================================

Types of Jobs
==============
There are several types of jobs, including full-time long-term regular jobs, internship, or contract jobs.
===============================================================
